Cakemate!

Cakemate!

Being 'in' with the 'in crowd' at Brambles entitles me to a complimentary cupcake when children have birthdays on a chess day (and I don't even have to switch over to Channel 4 to enjoy them).

Very nice!

Countdown to Action

This weekend will bring the 22nd Yarm Chess Championships, featuring teams of four players from many of our CSC Teesside schools. (Incidentally, a list of our currently active schools can be found here: http://www.chessinschools.co.uk/project.teesside.htm)

Early indications suggest we are looking at a large turn out, possibly smashing the 100 barrier in terms of individual players.

This week we are providing some easy checkmate practice over on our Facebook page.

Further tournament updates will follow...

22nd Yarm Team Chess Championship

The 22nd Yarm Team Chess Championship fast approaches!

The event is open to all Teesside Primary Schools.

All of our CSC schools have the details and hopefully they will be able to enter at least one team each.

Last year's event featured 18 teams. Can we attract even more entries this time?

Just a reminder that entries for the tournament are due by Thursday 29 September.

All of our schools have an entry form and it would be great to see as many teams as possible at one of our flagship events.

Lady Gaga

''Lady Gaga [...] has revealed she would like to date someone who knows their way around a chess board.''

Perhaps there's hope for me after all.

Giant Chess Set

Yarm School boosted their chess experience with the addition of a brand new giant chess set.

Ordered last Thursday and delivered the very next day from Chess & Bridge, (very impressive service!) Yarm School's new giant chess set has already seen plenty of action this week.

Participants at our next major event - the team championships on Saturday 1 October - will be able to have fun using the chess set between their tournament rounds.

Game on!

Yarm School Simul

The term's first full day of chess at Yarm School culminated in a simultaneous display against the entire might of class 6G.

Rosie and Louise won the chocolate bar for being the pair who lasted the longest!

New School Year

Welcome to the new school year, everyone!

2016-7 is going to be our busiest year yet for chess. We have more new schools aboard CSC Teesside and there are lots of plans to enhance our existing events while introducing brand new ones too.

The first major event of the school year will be the 22nd Yarm Team Chess Championship. This will be on Saturday 1 October at Yarm School and is open to all Primary and Preparatory schools on Teesside (Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees, Redcar & Cleveland, Hartlepool).

Teams will consist of four players from the same school.

The entry forms will be distributed next week.

Last year's event was a success, with 18 teams in all.

It is rare indeed for a series of events to reach 22 and I'm sure the forthcoming tournament will be a day to remember.
