Being 'in' with the 'in crowd' at Brambles entitles me to a complimentary cupcake when children have birthdays on a chess day (and I don't even have to switch over to Channel 4 to enjoy them).
This weekend will bring the 22nd Yarm Chess Championships, featuring teams of four players from many of our CSC Teesside schools. (Incidentally, a list of our currently active schools can be found here: http://www.chessinschools.co.uk/project.teesside.htm)
Early indications suggest we are looking at a large turn out, possibly smashing the 100 barrier in terms of individual players.
This week we are providing some easy checkmate practice over on our Facebook page.
Yarm School boosted their chess experience with the addition of a brand new giant chess set.
Ordered last Thursday and delivered the very next day from Chess & Bridge, (very impressive service!) Yarm School's new giant chess set has already seen plenty of action this week.
Participants at our next major event - the team championships on Saturday 1 October - will be able to have fun using the chess set between their tournament rounds.
2016-7 is going to be our busiest year yet for chess. We have more new schools aboard CSC Teesside and there are lots of plans to enhance our existing events while introducing brand new ones too.
The first major event of the school year will be the 22nd Yarm Team Chess Championship. This will be on Saturday 1 October at Yarm School and is open to all Primary and Preparatory schools on Teesside (Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees, Redcar & Cleveland, Hartlepool).
Teams will consist of four players from the same school.
