CSC Teesside and the International Chess Challenge

CSC Teesside is going international!

In a very exciting new development, we have established links with Hutt International Boys' School in New Zealand and we are currently sharing information and teaching methods.

We have also set up two special games of chess, which will be played via email, with the respective classes of children choosing their moves as a group exercise.

CSC's Park End Primary (Middlesbrough) and our very loyal chess friends at the Yarm Senior School will each play a match against Hutt International Boys' School and you can follow the progress of both games here.

Richard Catterall is in charge of the Hutt International Boys' School teams and here on Teesside we have Mason Hallet and Mike Pointon in charge of Park End and Yarm respectively.

Incidentally, the last time we followed a correspondence game on one of my blogs was back in 2007-8, when Jonathan Hawkins took on - and defeated - the Rest of the World.

The game can be found here. Jonathan went on to become a Grandmaster of chess and a British Champion. Perhaps one or more of the children involved in our new games can eventually achieve something similar...?

I have more international plans in the pipeline too. Stay tuned!
