Quiet, Please!

Time to unveil our latest project.

Following on from a series of negotiations, today we held very positive and extremely productive meetings at both the Middlesbrough Central Library and the Stockton Central Library.

Present at the respective meetings were Ruth Cull (Library Development Officer/Supporting Communities) and Lucy Carlton-Walker (Children and Young Person's Librarian) together with David Smith (Middlesbrough Chess Club) and Sean Cassidy (The Buffs Chess Club, Stockton-on-Tees).

We discussed plans to set up weekly chess sessions in our local libraries.

The libraries will provide the venue and facilities, Chess in Schools and Communities will supply the chess equipment and support and volunteers David and Sean will lead the respective sessions.

The idea is to create drop-in sessions at which all players - from juniors and novice adults to Grandmasters - will be able to go along to the libraries and enjoy a game of chess.

The sessions are scheduled to start in August.

Further details of this exciting venture will follow soon!
